Electronics

Electronics is the enabler of all things digital. It is the hardware and embedded software that allows products and processes to communicate, have power, have intelligence and awareness, be controlled, be automated and operate safely. It’s built into many sectors, including health, aerospace, manufacturing and retail.

The Electech Report estimated that there are over 1 million people employed within 45,000 businesses in the electronics sector, generating revenues of around £100 billion to the UK economy.

The Electronics team helps organisations access expert knowledge, funding opportunities and powerful connections.

Are you innovating in the Electronics sector?

We can help you take the next step by connecting you with the right funding, people and expertise.

Our people work with businesses of all sizes, including both developers and users of electronic technologies.

Our current focus in this area

Computing helps produce digital assets and software activity. These can be used by varied sectors such as transport, infrastructure, farming and life sciences.

The Driving the Electric Revolution Challenge, represents an investment of up to £80 million between 2019 and March 2025 for business-led innovation projects that enable UK supply chain and manufacturing capability growth in power electronics, machines & drives (PEMD).

An Embedded System is a computer system that plays a role within a larger mechanical or electrical system. Embedded systems control many devices we use everyday like vehicle engine management systems.  They are part of complete devices that often include hardware and mechanical parts.

Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (PEMD) are technologies that enable the control and delivery of electrical energy. These technologies are growing fast and are used across many sectors.

Radio-frequency (RF) electronics and systems is the application of transmission lines, waveguides, electronics, antennas and electromagnetic fields to the design and application of devices that produce or utilize signals within the radio band.

From bioelectronic medicine that treat chronic diseases, to brain-computer interfaces that help stroke rehabilitation, neurotechnology will play an increasingly important role in meeting some of the challenges of an ageing society.

The Cross-Sector Battery Systems Innovation Network is a collaborative community of technology developers and end-users from multiple sectors.
