Data, Public Services and Digital Transformation workshop
This Data, Public Services and Digital Transformation workshop forms a part of the wider DataFest18 festival, organised by The Data Lab, and is one of 30 plus events being held across Scotland from the 19th – 23rd of March.
About this workshop
The impact of Digital Transformation on public services and utilities is leading to a wave of change and innovation in Cities, Utilities and Transport Systems. Innovate UK and KTN are facilitating events to create awareness and understanding of these changes and the opportunities that are emerging in engaging more directly with service users. At the heart of these services lies the use of data to inform and guide changes and understanding. These data may be harvested from legacy infrastructure systems, from new sensor networks and from information services offered by data utilities. This workshop will look at the use of data from public services and utility systems and describe methods of analysis and understanding that can underpin changes in service delivery and usage. It will feature some case studies from Scottish Public Sector bodies and examples of best practice already in place across the UK. Delegates will be encouraged to bring their own challenges and explore scenarios of change during the workshop sessions. We aim to hold the event in Stirling or potentially, Dundee or Edinburgh, where we can best engage some case study materials.
Who should attend?
The target audience is officers working in Public Sector or Utility businesses, particularly in Cities or Utilities.
The event will start at 9:30am with the first session at 10am.
The event will feature a combination of case studies from public sector in Scotland and beyond; expert input and guidance from the speakers and colleagues from industry, e.g. Traak Systems; Professor Dave Robertson, Edinburgh University and The Data Lab. The programme will be facilitated by Ian Osborne, Head of Complex Systems at KTN.
We expect the workshop to end at 4pm and the day will include refreshments on arrival, lunch and afternoon tea and time for networking after the event.
DataFest18 is the second data festival hosted by The Data Lab, after the great success of last year’s inaugural event. DataFest promotes The Data Lab’s mission to position Scotland as an epicentre of international data-driven problem solving. The Data Lab empowers industry, public sector and world-class universities to harness data, and generate its economic, scientific and social benefits.
DataFest18 has a special focus on collaboration, recognising and championing the individuals who use data science to achieve extraordinary things in their day-to-day roles, making them #DataWarriors, whatever their core profession or industry. By recognising such ‘data warriors’, and thereby bringing together different industries, expertise and data, the huge potential of data can be realised.
