An overview of the Imagine Chemistry program

The AkzoNobel Chemicals Startup Challenge

Knowledge Transfer Network (KTN) is very pleased to host a free webinar where you can find out more about the opportunities to work with AkzoNobel under their Imagine Chemistry Startup Challenge.

AkzoNobel is a leading global paints, coatings and specialty chemicals company with a core belief that sustainability is vital to the success of the company, society and the planet, and that collaboration is the way to stay ahead in the rapidly advancing world of chemistry.

Imagine Chemistry is part of a set of open innovation activities at AkzoNobel, designed to form links with startups, create valuable partnerships, and identify sustainable business opportunities for the company. It is a co-development partnership − the program and the on-line platform provides innovators the right access, acceleration and means to develop their concepts and spread them across the world.

In 2017, over 200 ideas were submitted, of which 20 finalists were chosen to participate in the Collaborative Final event in Deventer, The Netherlands. At the event, four winners were awarded joint development or research agreements with AkzoNobel to help bring their ideas to market.  Six other startups were awarded prizes, including business development support and research support.

Following the success of the first edition, Imagine Chemistry will be launched again in January of 2018 by AkzoNobel with its partner KPMG.

Join us for this free webinar where AkzoNobel will provide an overview of the Imagine Chemistry program, how it works and discuss the challenge areas for 2018, which include:

  • Zero-footprint surfactants platforms
  • Revolutionizing chlorate production
  • Sustainable liquid to powder technologies
  • Sustainable small particle technologies
  • Wastewater-free chemical sites
  • Intelligent chemical plants

Presenters from UK startup uFraction8, a finalist in the 2017 challenge that is currently engaged in a joint research agreement with AkzoNobel, will discuss their experience and provide advice to startups for the 2018 edition.
