Regional Angel Investment Accelerator briefing event
A study by the UK Business Angel Association and Beauhurst shows that over 66% of all early stage investment is in companies in London, the South East and the East of England.
Building on Innovate UK’s Investment Accelerator model of deploying grant funding alongside private investment, we are piloting a scheme to encourage Angels to invest in early stage, disruptive technology businesses outside London, the South East and the East of England. We are looking for imaginative proposals that build capacity and interest in investing in these opportunities within angel networks and groups.
Applicants could be angel networks or groups, but could also include collaborations with universities, Local Enterprise Partnerships, Growth Hubs and other relevant organisations. It could also potentially include investment platform providers or funds who are working with angel investors.
We will be selecting two partners. Each selected partner will also partner with Innovate UK to deploying £1m as grant funding for a number of innovative research and development projects to SMEs. This will be alongside investment from angels and other similar early stage investors. Innovate UK will use their independent assessor process to validate the grant applications. One partner will focus its activities in an area within the North East, the North West, Yorkshire and Humberside and the East Midlands. The other will focus its activities within Wales, the South West and the West Midlands.
This briefing session will also provide an opportunity for potential applicants to network and form collaborations where applicable.
