UK Opportunities for LIDAR in Transport

Event details
Wednesday, 18 April 2018
10:00 am – 15:30 pm
Overview
This workshop will look at the current state of play and examine the opportunity for a UK lidar supply chain.

The Government has announced that it will use the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to invest in collaborative research and development projects to develop the next generation of AI and control systems need to ensure the UK is at the forefront of the driverless cars revolution. This revolution will be underpinned by photonic sensors and in particular lidar (Light Detection and Ranging). The opportunities are not limited solely to cars, however; lidar can enable autonomy and provide augmented sensing across multiple transport sectors including maritime, rail and aviation.

It has been commented that the cost and performance of current lidar systems may present a barrier to wider adoption, and this may present an opportunity for UK industry to provide improved sources, sensors, optics and system integration. This workshop will look at the current state of play and examine the opportunity for a UK lidar supply chain.
