Finding fertile fields for the future

The Crop Health and Protection Agri-Tech Centre (CHAP) is hosting a “Soils Forum” on 4th June 2019 in Ross-on-Wye.

The 2013 Agricultural Technologies Strategy set out a vision for the UK to become a world leader in agricultural technology innovation and sustainability. As part of this strategy, the UK government made a significant investment in four key Agricultural Technology Centres (Agri-Tech Centres). Each Centre has its own unique focus; building capabilities that can lead the world in delivering sustainable food and farming solutions.

The Crop Health and Protection Agri-Tech Centre (CHAP) aims to increase crop productivity through the uptake of new technologies – developing and trialling solutions that will transform crop systems.

CHAP is hosting a Soils Forum on 4th June 2019 in Ross-on-Wye.

CHAP Soils Forum 2019, 4th June, Ross-on-Wye

Soils are a key resource to the agricultural production system, yet 33% of arable top soil has been lost globally in the last 40 years. In England and Wales at current rates of usage it is estimated that we have just 100 harvests left.

It is essential that we understand our soils so that we can use and manage them in a productive and sustainable way. To catalyse debate and identify potential solutions CHAP is holding a ‘Soils Forum’ to bring together a range of interested stakeholders Рacademia, practitioners and innovators Рto showcase current cutting-edge technologies and practical field solutions; stimulate new thinking; facilitate collaboration; turn theory into action.
