Funding on offer for innovations in Defence and Security
The Defence and Security Accelerator funds a wide variety of projects – several calls for defensive innovations are now open.
There are five funding calls open at present:
Take Cover! – protection for frontline troops
Up to £600k available in phase I for lightweight rapidly deployable protection for on-foot troops on the front-line. If your company makes strong lightweight materials for any application Рe.g. for aerospace or transport Рmaybe your innovations are relevant. Closes 24th October 2018.
Metasurfaces for defence and security
Up to £500k available in phase 1 to better understand the benefits that current and future metasurface technologies (materials with sub-wavelength thicknesses) can bring to front-line capabilities in applications across the electromagnetic spectrum, from radio frequencies to the ultraviolet. Of interest to companies in nanotechnology, electronics, graphene, photonics. Closes 28th September.
Up to £1 million available in phase 1 for proposals to explore the benefits that innovative technologies can bring to military front-line capabilities, in applications across the contested Electromagnetic Spectrum; areas to tackle include spectrum congestion, poor spectrum management, the environment and the impact of intentional disruption. Closes 22nd October.
Don’t Blow It! Safely eliminating chemical and biological munitions on the battlefield
Up to £500k available in phase 1 for multiple proof-of-concept proposals at low Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) which suggest novel and innovative technologies and approaches to access, disable and/or irreversibly destroy chemical and biological munitions, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and bulk agents in challenging environments. DASA are looking for ways to sense these (biological, chemical or electronic) and safely disable/destroy them (perhaps using robotics and AI). This competition will launch at an event in London on the 26 September 2018. If you are interested in attending please register your Expression of Interest by 5pm on 12 September 2018.
Up to £500k available in phase 1 for innovative technologies that provide an improved way to detect and locate deposited hazardous biological agents rapidly in the field. Could be of interest to companies in biotechnology, AI and robotics, and sensors. Closes 7th November.
