Imaging Innovations: Clinicians & Academics Knowledge Exchange

Posted on 27/10/2018

NIHR Surgical MedTech Co-operative and MedIAN are hosting a Knowledge Exchange event targeted at clinicians and academics.

On 13th November at The Studio in Leeds, The NIHR Surgical MedTech Co-operative and the Medical Image Analysis Network (MedIAN) will be hosting its free event titled ‘Imaging Innovations: Clinicians & Academics Knowledge Exchange’.

The aim of the event is to bring together clinical, academic and commercial expertise which could enable research collaborations to access funding to further innovation in the area. The Surgical MIC is focused on colorectal, HPB and vascular surgery, but would also like to draw expertise from any other clinical or academic speciality. The event therefore offers the chance for academics, clinicians and companies with an interest in imaging technologies to engage, discuss the clinical applications of new technologies, and to form research collaborations to address unmet needs for imaging in surgery.

Earlier this year the Royal College of Surgeons launched an independent commission to explore the future of surgery, and to identify the specific future advances in medicine and technology, especially in terms of they will affect the delivery of surgical care. One of these advances is imaging, which is why this event is of particular significance.

The event would be of particular benefit to companies who are seeking to improve their current practices or explore technologies for new applications, or companies seeking to identify leading clinicians and academics in other areas of their current activities and to establish collaborations. The event is also for clinicians wishing to discuss potential solutions and collaborations, academics involved in developing new imaging technologies, and funding organisations.

The Knowledge Exchange event will feature short showcases on real issues faced by clinicians, as well as the current research being undertaken by academics. There will also be the opportunity for networking.

Speakers include:

  • Steven Sourbron, Lecturer in MRI, University of Leeds
  • Marc Bailey, BHF Clinical Research Training Fellow in Vascular Surgery, University of Leeds
  • Dr. Max Troxler, (Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust)
  • Zeike Taylor, Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering, Sheffield University
