New Surgical MedTech Cooperative building a new technology network

In January 2018, the NIHR Colorectal Therapies Healthcare Technologies Co-operative became the NIHR Surgical MedTech Cooperative.

The new Surgical MedTech Cooperative will build a new technology network, adding vascular and hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery to its colorectal theme. These areas of surgery all face substantial challenges, with many people suffering from diseases that will benefit from technological innovation.

The Surgical MedTech Co-operative will undertake a variety of activities to identify new areas in need of innovation, support research to address clinical problems, and provide a resource for evaluating new surgical technologies within the wider context of the NHS.

The Surgical MedTech Cooperative launch event will take place on the 1st of March at Leeds Art Gallery. The event will consist of talks from our clinical leads, and our supporting academic work streams which are pathology, clinical trials, health economics, physics & engineering and business & commercialisation.
