The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory market interest day, 28th November

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) is holding a market interest day on 28 Nov for potential primes and sub-contractors.

The day will allow Dstl to announce the Heimdall framework, a new mechanism to enable them to access academic and industrial expertise. The Heimdall framework is born of a recognition within the Future Threat Understanding and Disruption programme that there is the need for a new contractual construct for research and technology solutions in order to prepare UK defence and security for an uncertain future.

The Future Threat Understanding and Disruption programme was launched in 2017 to ensure that the UK understands the potential defence and security impact of emerging science and technology in order to reduce the chance of future ‘shocks’ and is prepared to respond to future threats. The programme works across government with key international allies and with partners from industry and academia.

It has now been identified that the Heimdall framework is necessary to provide an agile and flexible contract mechanism for the provision of research, innovative solutions and rapid response in:
• Future operating environment
• Defence strategic environment
• Information threat
• Disruptive technologies
• Hostile use of automated and autonomous platforms
• Disruption of emerging and future threats
