The UQ&M SIG announces its series of activities for the year.

The UQ&M SIG is pleased to announce its series of activities for this year. These activities are all open for registration now. There are a variety of engagement opportunities planned from now until Christmas, ranging from virtual meetings to three day intensive Study Group sessions.

Multidisciplinary Design Optimisation – Prof Andy Keane

Description:
The latest in the UQ&M Special Interest Groups’ webinar series will be on Multidisciplinary Design Optimisation. This webinar will be delivered by Prof. Andy Keane. Prof Keane is Professor of Computational Engineering within Engineering and the Environment at the University of Southampton e-Science Centre in the Computational Engineering and Design Research Group. Professor Keane‚Äôs webinar will cover a variety of topics concerning Multidisciplinary Design Optimisation (MDO), including:

  • The Requirements of a Good MDO Toolkit
  • From Design Variables to Geometry Automation
  • Analysis Tool Chains

Uncertainty Quantification & Management for Industry

Location: Centre for Modelling and Simulation, Bristol & Bath Science Park, Bristol, BS16 7AJ.
Date: 22nd – 23rd August 2017
Open to ALL

Description:
This two-day meeting aims to disseminate progress which has been made by the Uncertainty Quantification and Management Special Interest Group. The SIG was set up in 2015 and aimed to create value in UK industrial sectors by:

  • Creating collaborative groupings that identify real benefit in working together
  • Developing and refining of challenges and aspirations
  • Supporting a clutch of industry pulled projects that make significant advances against the above challenges within given industrial sectors
  • Promoting an increasingly statistics-savvy engineering design and assessment community
  • Joining up a holistic UK based UQ&M capability that can respond positively to end-user aspirations and requirements

This meeting at the Centre for Modelling and Simulation will:

  • Deliver a number of industrial talks on how and why UQ&M was applied to their industry, what has this application enabled in their business.
  • Provide an opportunity to hear from aspiring industries on problems they may have
  • Invite researchers to speak on state of the art research of relevance to the area.

Confirmed Speakers from Airbus UK, Innovate UK, EPSRC, Network Rail, Liverpool Institute for Risk and Uncertainty, University of Sheffield, University of Exeter, University of Nottingham.

Third Uncertainty Quantification and Management Study Group with Industry
Location: Warwick Centre for Predictive Modelling, University of Warwick
Date: 13th – 15th December 2017
Mainly open to UQ researchers (businesses please contact Matt Butchers, Knowledge Transfer Manager, Industrial Mathematics)

Description:
The purpose of the Study Group is four-fold:

  • To help companies with established UQ programmes refine their approaches,
  • To help companies new to the field understand the benefit that UQ&M could have on their operations,
  • To expose UK researchers to the kind of challenges UK industries wish to apply UQ&M to, and
  • To enable a cross-fertilisation of ideas between disciplines (data scientists, statisticians, numerical analysts etc.)
