What makes a great food sciences graduate?

The ‘Competencies for Food Graduate Careers’ toolkit aims to support the development of ‘oven ready’ graduates for the food industry.

The University of Nottingham’s ‘Competencies for Food Graduate Careers’  is an online interactive tool which provides all  students with information about the wide range of careers on offer in the food industry and what competencies are desirable for each role type. It has been developed in partnership with representatives from SMEs, retailers, manufacturers, R&D centres and higher education institutions with the aim of disseminating a competency framework tailored to typical technical career pathways for graduates.

Dr Anita Setarehnejad of Cardiff Metropolitan University said

“Using this knowledge, students can prepare themselves for the career they would like to be in and focus on relevant module choices while studying at university.”

In addition to the core activity of student career guidance, the University of Nottingham is also refining its degree programmes, working with employers on how to generate consistency in job adverts and sharing learnings with other degree providers in the UK.
