Brian McCarthy

KTM, Advanced Materials for Functional Systems

Profile overview

Brian has responsibility for textiles, packaging and consumer goods at KTN. A Fellow of the Society of Biology and of the Textile Institute, he has edited titles on textile hygiene and disease control and on polymeric protective technical textiles. He has extensive R&D experience in the textile industry; working with commercial organisations and government departments, as well as at Heriot-Watt University and the University of Manchester. He served as Director of TechnTex Faraday and began his career as Group Manager – Science at WIRA. He holds a BSc in Genetics and Developmental Biology and an M.Sc in Biodeterioration of Materials.
