Cyber Security Academic Startup Accelerator Programme

CyberASAP, funded by DCMS in collaboration with Innovate UK & KTN, helps academics in UK universities commercialise their cyber security ideas.

The only pre-seed accelerator programme in the cyber security ecosystem, CyberASAP (Cyber Security Academic Startup Accelerator Programme) provides expertise, knowledge and support to convert academic ideas into commercial products in the cyber security space.

A dynamic and comprehensive programme of specialist training, workshops, briefings and bootcamps gives participating teams vital insights into the key milestones necessary to take their product from the lab to the market. The programme has two phases:

Phase 1 – developing your value proposition and market validation. Successful teams from Phase 1 will progress to

Phase 2 – developing your proof of concept. This culminates in a Demo Day in February 2021 where teams’ prototypes are showcased to potential investors and industry.

28 teams were originally selected to participate in Phase 1 of the current 2020/21 programme, and 20 of those teams have now been chosen to progress to the second stage of Phase 1. A further selection process will take place to determine the teams moving forward to Phase 2 of CyberASAP 2020/21.

Find out more about the teams that reached the final stage of the 2019/20 programme here, and you can find out more about how previous years’ teams progressed with their projects here.

If you are an Academic or University Technology Transfer Officer, Industrialist or investor and would like to register your interest in being involved or supporting the 2020/21 programme, you can do so here.

In February 2020, the final 13 academic teams from CyberASAP’s third year (from the original intake of 26 in February 2019) pitched and presented their Minimum Viable Products to an audience of industrialists and investors at a very successful Demo Day in Canary Wharf (see video below). The second year cohort’s Demo Day is featured here.
